From The Files Of June 12, 1980 ’80 The problem of whether the village of Hustontown will continue to have streetlights or not has been solved in favor of the lights staying
lit, with an agreement by the Dublin and Taylor Township supervisors to take over the billing to the 70 or so residents involved and the payment for the electric service. Once the townships take over, nonpayment by property owners could result in liens against their properties under ordinances which will be drawn up for the town townships.
Local PennDOT manager Harold Harman last week announced imminent changes to be made at the intersection of Route 16 and Lincoln Way in McConnellsburg after hearing complaints from the borough council about those changes.
Mrs. Don Hill, who for the past several years has been the faithful correspondent for the items from the Needmore area in the “News,” is a patient in Washington County Hospital after suffering a stroke at her home last week.
Spruce Creek Valley in Huntingdon County became the “Pennsylvania White House” for a short while this Saturday as President Jimmy Carter and first lady Rosalynn Carter helicoptered in for a day of trout fishing at the Spruce Creek Rod and Gun Club. A radio communications unit was set up at creekside where the president was fishing to keep him in touch with Washington. The president reportedly caught two fish, a large and a small trout, while Rosalynn landed a large trout.
