Denise Chesnut spent Memorial Day weekend with her daughter, Hilary, in Russet, N.C., where she is a trainer for Holbrook Quarterhorse Ranch.

Thirty family members of the late Ralph and Emmer Mellott enjoyed a family outing Sunday at Laurel Ridge Church pavilion. The three living children are Bobby Mellott, Hazel Sipes and Bill Mellott.

Happy wedding anniversary to K.G. and Polly Richards, who were married 65 years ago.

Carl and Hulda Bain were visited last week by Hulda’s nephew, Ken Meyers, and wife Lee of Virginia and niece Darlene Myers of Fort Loudon, and enjoyed having lunch.

Congratulations to the Southern Fulton seniors who graduated on Monday night. May you have a successful future.

Russ and Joan Gordon will observe their 51st wedding anniversary on June 14.

St. Paul Lutheran Church had its men’s prayer breakfast on Saturday at the New Fort Restaurant, with five attending.

A graduation party was held on Saturday at the VFW picnic grounds for Evan Lynch, with family members, including his grandparents George and Betty Lynch, and friends attending.

Dave Peck recently toured the states of Utah and Nevada for three weeks.

Richard “Lefty” Shearer of Syracuse, N.Y., visited with siblings and families and his old friends in this area last week.

A birthday celebration was held Sunday in St. Paul Lutheran Church for the visiting pastor, Joe Hall, after church services. Cake and ice cream were served. Special music by the Hall family was enjoyed at the church services.

Fae Anna Heilig’s sister, Doris Jankowicz of New Jersey, visited with her last week and they attended church services at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Sunday.

George “Si” Mellott will observe his 79th birthday on June 15. He would enjoy having cards sent by friends and relatives. His address is Long-Term Care Unit, Fulton County Medical Center, Room 24A. He is improving some every day.

Kurt Mellott, son of Leon and Patty Mellott of Needmore, left on Tuesday for basic training in the United States Air Force at San Antonio, Texas.

It happened this week: On June 5, 1968, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated in Los Angeles’ Ambassador Hotel after claiming victory in California’s Democratic presidential primary. Gunman Sirhan Bishara Sirhan was immediately arrested.

Country shortcuts: Trouble breaking an egg? Break them one at a time into a small funnel. The egg white will drain into your bowl, leaving behind the yolk to put in a separate one.

Maggie Riggs of town and daughter Lindsay Mellott of Needmore spent the weekend visiting Maggie’s sister Betsey Holland at her Ocean City, N.J., home. Also there for an extended visit was niece Jan Holland- Hayes of Wepham, West Sussex, England.
