Speedy recovery wishes to Shawn Young, who has been a patient in J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital with acute appendicitis.

Congratulations to Danielle Stallman and Shane Fogal on the birth of their daughter, Harmony Noel Fogel, May 26. She weighed in at 7 pounds, 12 ounces and is doing well. Proud grandparents and great-grandparents are Sandy Kling, Mark Stallman, Kelly and Michelle Fogal, Ivan McMullen, and Mabel Strait.

Hull and Joan Holtry were visited by a rather large black bear checking out the hummingbird feeder last week. Hull was reading his paper out on the porch when he spotted the visitor just 20 or so feet away. After several futile attempts to send the bear packing, Joan was finally successful in scaring the bear away and then removed her feeders.

Steve, Karen, Terri and Tammy Grissinger and Ramon Martin attended a Memorial Day picnic at the home of Travis, Tawnya, Tristen and Ty Hall.

Tom, Mamie and Tim Streightiff, Kenny and Kristi Watkins, and Jen Ramsey enjoyed dining at Hickory Bridge Farm Restaurant near Ortanna last weekend to celebrate Mamie’s birthday.

A 50th wedding anniversary celebration was held for Nelson and Janet Brown on Saturday afternoon at Cowans Gap State Park.

Buzz and Bea Covert attended Kean Goshorn’s game on Saturday.

Visiting last week with the Steve and Karen Grissinger family were Marty and Denise Sinkiewicz, Tawnya and Tristen Hall, Ruth Grissinger, Donna Locke, Irene Park, Brent and Becca Carlson, and Tom and Mamie Streightiff.

Angel Wings will be sponsoring a Father’s Day dinner on Sunday, June 20, at the Lions Club building in Orbisonia from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. A roast beef dinner with several sides will be available for eating in or takeouts. Reservations for groups of four or more can be made by calling Ruth Grissinger at 814-599-9123 or at rgssteel@innernet.net. Door prizes will be available. The last day of the fundraiser ticket sale for Angel Wings is June 13. Please have all ticket stubs and money turned into Ruth Grissinger by that date.

Ruth Grissinger and Dodie Price had an enjoyable dinner this week.

Tammy and Karen Grissinger and “Remmy,” the new puppy, visited with Bob and Alicia Albrecht in Fayetteville on Saturday afternoon.

Honey bees have been busy swarming in our area. According to the old-timers, a swarm in May was worth a load of hay, a swarm in June is worth a silver spoon and a swarm in July won’t be worth a fly.

Three Springs Fire Co. will be holding a chicken barbecue on June 27 at 11 a.m.
