Vehicle Strikes Tree

A southbound 2006 Hyundai Tucson struck a tree along Franklin Mills Road on Wednesday, May 26, according to a report issued by state police. Driver Heather M. Kauffman, 26, of Warfordsburg was not injured during the 4:20 p.m. accident that also involved the tree falling onto her vehicle.

Doorway Damaged

A 36-year-old Wells Tannery woman informed state police the front doorway of her home located at 845 West Tannery Road sustained damage when burglars attempted to break in between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday, May 14. Driver Swerves To Miss Deer

A driver, who was not identified by state police, swerved to miss a whitetailed deer along Route 30 in Brush Creek Township on Thursday, May 27. The driver’s eastbound 1999 Neon then struck the deer as well as a PennDOT roadway sign at 10:28 p.m. No injuries were reported at the scene.

Man Charged With Stalking

Twenty-two-year-old Mathew Alexander Buterbaugh of McConnellsburg has been charged with stalking and related offenses in connection with an incident that occurred on Monday, May 10.

According to state police, Buterbaugh had allegedly been sending text messages to a 20-year-old woman asking where she was and who she was with. Buterbaugh then observed the victim driving through the borough of McConnellsburg and reportedly followed her in his vehicle. He ran a red light to keep up and followed her at a close range until she drove to the McConnellsburg state police substation.

Buterbaugh was charged through Magisterial District Judge Wendy Mellott.

Juvenile Charged In Altercation

A 12-year-old boy from McConnellsburg has been charged with harassment after he allegedly punched a 12-year-old male, also from McConnellsburg, in the head and face. The harassment reportedly occurred at Lions Club Park in Todd Township on Wednesday, May 26, at 6:15 p.m.

Mailboxes Damaged

A 31-year-old Needmore man and a 57-year-old woman from Needmore told state police troopers their mailboxes located at 740 Diehl Road in Thompson Township were damaged at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26. Anyone with further information linked to this case of mischief is asked to call Trooper Sprague at the McConnellsburg state police barracks at 717-485-3131.

Bail Set In Domestic Violence Case

Bail was set at $15,000 for Randall S. Skiles, 46, of Mc- Connellsburg, who is charged with one count of simple assault and two counts of harassment. Skiles was allegedly involved in a verbal dispute with a 36- year-old McConnellsburg woman sometime May 29 or May 30 at 594 Strawberry Ridge Road in Ayr Township.

Burglary Reported At Hillside Estates

Residents of 49 Hillside Estates, McConnellsburg, reported a burglary at their home between 8 p.m. and midnight on Friday, May 28. State police reported among the items taken from the residence were a Pittsburgh Steelers watch, a silver Vivitar digital camera, a 1922 silver dollar, three gold James Folk dollars, two Zippo lighters, two Verizon cellular telephones and various amounts of change. Anyone having additional information regarding this break-in should contact Trooper Garner at 717-485-3131.

Motorcyclist Injured In Crash

A Highland Ranch, Colo., man was transported by Flintstone EMS to Western Maryland Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash in Union Township on Monday, May 31. Fifty-seven-yearold Daniel L. Hamilton reportedly suffered moderate injuries in the accident along Buck Valley Road.

Hamilton was injured, state police reported, when he failed to negotiate a leftand curve in the roadway. His westbound 2007 Harley Davidson Sportster travelled off the road and into a creek. He will be charged with driving on roadways laned for traffic.

Truck Hits Guiderail

A westbound 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 spun into a guiderail along Interstate 70 on Saturday, May 29, leaving its driver with minor injuries. According to state police, Christopher L. Shaw, 19, of Altoona lost control of the truck while travelling through Brush Creek Township at 7:11 p.m. Following initial impact, the truck spun across the median strip and into the eastbound lanes.

Shaw was wearing a seat belt, as was his passenger Michael C. Colley, 19, Roaring Springs, who escaped unharmed. Shaw will be charged by state police with driving on roadways laned for traffic.

Cellmate Charged In Meyers’ Murder

An inmate at the North Branch Correctional Institution in Allegheny County, Md., was indicted recently with the murder of 39-yearold cellmate Clarence Meyers of Hancock.

The Allegheny County state attorney Michael Twigg reported Christopher Robert White, 35, has been charged with the December 30, 2009, death of Meyers. Meyers was found dead in his cell as a result of strangulation.

Meyers was in the process of serving two life sentences for setting a blaze that killed two teenage sisters, Mary and Nicole Gross.

Three Killed In Mercersburg Crash

MERCERSBURG, Pa. (AP) – Authorities in central Pennsylvania say an out-ofcontrol car struck a curb, went airborne and hit two trees, killing all three peole in the vehicle.

The victims were identified as 20-year-old Gregory Burt, 39-year-old Michelle Monninger and 27-year-old Nicole Shoemaker.

They were pronounced dead at the scene in Mercersburg on Saturday night.

Coroner Jeffrey Conner says all three were from Mercersburg and that they were related.

Police say none of the victims was wearing a seat belt, and that all three were thrown from the car.
