William M. Gracey

Saxton, 84

William Martin Gracey, 84, formerly of Saxton, died Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at Colonial Courtyard, Bedford, where he had been a resident.

Born October 15, 1925, in Waterfall, he was a son of the late Jesse and Alice (Laidig) Gracey. He married the former Betty Jean Park October 31, 1946, in Winchester, Va. She preceded him in death in 2004.

He is survived by three daughters and one son: Patricia Rupert and husband Stanley; Doris Carbaugh and husband Glen; Sharon Lehman and husband Tim; and Brian Gracey and wife Dorothy (Myslinski); seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren and six greatgrandchildren; and a brother and a sister, Charles and Ruth.

He was preceded in death by two granddaughters and five brothers and two sisters: James, Leroy, David, Harry, Gerald, Miriam and Esther.

He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Saxton.

He was a veteran of World War II, having serve din the European Theatre of Operations with the United States Army. He earned a number of medals, including the Bronze Star.

During his lifetime, he worked as a grade sawyer and in the mines for more than 20 years. He also worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for H.J. Williams and Vipond & Vipond.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working with wood.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 29, at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc., Broad Top City. Interment was made in the Broad Top City IOOF Cemetery. Full military honors were by the Broad Top Honor Guard.
