McConnellsburg Graduation June 2
Brenna Elaine DeShong is the class valedictorian. She is the daughter of Alan and Lisa DeShong. She has achieved the honor of being on the all “A” honor roll 24 times. She is the president of the senior class. Her activities include president of the National Honor Society, Varsity Club, Envirothon, girls varsity soccer and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD). She was also named the 2009 prom queen. For her community service hours and senior project, Brenna helped tutor elementary school students after school and served as an editor on the 2008-09 MHS yearbook. Brenna works as a hostess/cashier at Bob Evans in Breezewood. She will be attending Shippensburg University, majoring in mathematics with secondary education concentration.
Lisa DeShong is the class salutatorian. She is the daughter of Anthony and Deborah DeShong. During high school she was a member of the National Honor Society, Envirothon, Varsity Club and SADD. She was a member of the volleyball and softball teams. She was treasurer of the Class of 2010, National Honor Society and Varsity Club. Lisa worked on the yearbook for her senior project and for her community service, she volunteered with elementary volleyball. Lisa plans to attend Penn State University at University Park. She is undecided about her major.
Devon Scott Welsh is the senior with the third highest scholastic average. He is the son of David and Tina Welsh. He was named to the all “A” honor roll 22 times. Devin has been involved in SADD, Teens Against Tobacco Use, Varsity Club, chorus, National Honor Society, student forum, soccer, basketball and baseball (four years). For his community service project, he volunteered for the Mc- Connellsburg Volunteer Fire Co. He participated in a mock election for his senior project. He plans to attend Penn State University at University Park in the fall, majoring in pre-medicine.
Colby Shane Sowers, son of Larry “Flip” and Michele Sowers, achieved the fourth highest scholastic ranking in the class. He was named to the all “A” honor roll 21 times. He is involved in SADD, Teens Against Tobacco Use, National Honor Society, student forum and the gifted program. He is the co-president of the Varsity Club. Colby was captain of the varsity soccer team and participated in varsity track. His community service was completed by volunteering as Mrs. Eichelberger’s lab assistant. His senior project was putting on a mock presidential election for the middle and high schools. He was an actor in the senior play. In the fall, he will be attending Penn State University at University Park, majoring in pre-medicine.
