District 5 Track Championships Held

Lucas Banks cinched two first-place finishes last Wednesday for the McConnellsburg Spartans during the District 5-A track and field championships held at Northern Bedford. Banks took both the discus and shot put, while teammate Trevor Souders finished second in the shot put with a throw of 45-5.

Southern Fulton’s Jacob Ashkettle and Dylan Whiteside also had a big day during the championships, with Ashkettle placing fourth in the long jump and high jump and fifth in the triple jump. Dylan Whiteside picked up sixth-place wins in the 100-and 200-meter events, while Briar Kirk and Josh Voight also placed sixth in the 1600 meter and 3200 meter, respectively. The 3200-meter relay team finished in fifth, and Steven Meyer grabbed the highest placement for the Indians with a third-place victory in the javelin.

For Forbes Road, Ryan Stoekle took a third-place finish in the discus with a throw of 121-2. Final standings for the day were an overall seventhplace ranking for Mc- Connellsburg, 10th for Southern Fulton and Forbes Road in 14th place.

Southern Fulton secured a fifth-place ranking overall last Wednesday when the Lady Indians competed in the District 5 track and field championships at Northern Bedford. Amy Bard grabbed two secondplace wins in the 400 and 800 meter, while Jenna Hollenshead followed with a second place in the 1600 and fourth in the 800 meter. Teammate Caitie Mellott took two sixthplace victories in the 100 and 200 meter, and Cierra Covalt and Crystal Appel were sixth and fifth in the 100 hurdles and shot put.
