Alma K. Garland Hagerstown, 78

Alma Kathaleen Garland, 78, Hagerstown, Md., and a resident of NMS Health Care of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at the facility.

Born September 3, 1931, in Delaware, she was the daughter of the late Jabez and Gladys Schetrompf Knable and the widow of Herman F. Garland, who died July 19, 1989, and whom she married June 7, 1952.

She was retired from Washington County Board of Education on June 11, 1997, as an elementary school teacher.

She received her B.A. degree in 1971 and her M.S. degree in 1977 from Towson University.

She was a member of Calvary Assembly of God, Waynesboro.

She is survived by a daughter, Pamela Joy Reno, Hagerstown; one son, Michael K. Garland Sr., Chambersburg; two sisters: Mary Catherine Strait, Chambersburg; Mildred O. Stotler, Hancock; three brothers: Charles K. Knable, Avon Park, Fla.; Carl L. Knable and Ray A. Knable, both of Needmore; two grandchildren and a greatgrandchild.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold E. Knable, in 2004.

Services were held Monday, May 10, at 10:00 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, Hancock. Pastor Doug Poffenberger officiated. Burial was made in Pleasant Grove Christian Cemetery, Warfordsburg.
