HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Gubernatorial candidate Anthony Hardy Williams is getting another big check from advocates of “school choice.’’

Documents made public Monday show Williams received $1.6 million from the Students First political action committee.

The group is financed by a small group of wealthy donors who support school vouchers, charter schools and other taxpayer-financed alternatives to public schools.

It was Williams’ second major contribution from the group since the filing of the last pre-election campaign-finance reports and it pushed his total contributions to more than $6.5 million.

Williams has advertised heavily on television. But polls show him far behind Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato – the front-runner in the four-way race for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination that will be decided Tuesday.
