Woman Charged In Fire That Killed NE Pa. Man
HONESDALE, Pa. (AP) – A northeastern Pennsylvania woman has been charged with killing a man by setting fire to the home they shared.
State police say 45-year-old Susan Marie Bates of Honesdale was charged with criminal homicide as well as arson-related offenses in the 4:30 p.m. Saturday fire that killed 40-year-old Timothy Wood.
Police allege that Bates started the fire upstairs and then fled the residence, but Wood was unable to escape and died in the blaze that gutted the home.
Bates was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Jane Farrell and sent to Wayne County Prison without bail. A listed number for Bates could not be found Sunday and it was unclear whether she had an attorney.
