Layton Completes Sewing Training

Martha Pullen, host of the PBS TV series, Martha’s Sewing Room, announces that Helen Layton of Warfordsburg, has recently completed training in Huntsville, Ala., to become a Martha Pullen “Teaching Beginning Sewing” licensed teacher. This title has been awarded to a few select sewing teachers across the United States, England, Canada, Mexico and Australia.

Pullen heads a sewing empire, Martha Pullen Co. Inc. that focuses on the concept of heirloom sewing. Every licensed Martha Pullen “Teaching Beginninng Sewing” teacher is authorized to sell Pullen’s more than 50 books, each one having been written to promote the art of heirloom sewing as well as the Martha Pullen brand of imported fabrics and laces. Each Martha Pullen teacher is licensed to conduct classes anywhere in the world.

Pullen has been conducting The Martha Pullen School of Art Fashion in Huntsville, Ala., for more than 25 years. When she began receiving hundreds of invitations to teach that she simply could not accept, the need arose to have a faculty of very specialized teachers to teach the Martha Pullen methods. It became a new objective to carefully choose individuals who could travel to Pullen sharing the joy of techniques of heirloom sewing. Layton is one of the very small number of people who will be doing just that – traveling and teaching for Pullen.

Layton is certified to teach 20 different classes, which include complete and simple-to-sew instructions for garments, home decorating items, window treatments, purses and quilted items.
