Jack Rank Memorial Spring Camporee
The Jack Rank Memorial Spring Camporee will be held May 1 and 2 at the state historic site of Fort Loudon. The host troop is Mercersburg Troop #143. The opening ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Throughout the day, the troops will participate in a scavenger amazing race, 19th century patrol cookout, mud pit tug of war, 30-foot rock climbing wall, archery, horseshoe pitch, tomahawk throw, canoeing and fishing. There will be a black powder demonstration, wood carving demonstration and a trading post set up on site. There will also be the 27th Indiana Regiment and 8th Virginia Civil War units, plus a WWII, Vietnam and French and Indian War reenactment units on site. The Scout troops will break for lunch from noon to 1:00 p.m. The day’s activities will end about 5:00 p.m. There is no admission fee. The Patton House Museum and Gift Shop will be open on Satudray from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., where many of Jack’s awards, badges, certificates and his collection of more than 100 Scouting mugs will be on display.
