April showers were floating around on Sunday, with some areas getting hail.

Clear Ridge Church folks will be having a yard sale and food for sale at the community building on Thursday and Friday, May 6 and 7, at 8:00 a.m. So go out and browse around and enjoy their good food.

Gwendolyn Aurand was having surgery on Monday. We send speedy recovery wishes her way.

The food auction for May 14 at Hustontown Area Fire Co. has been cancelled. The volunteer firemen want to thank everyone for their support in this fundraiser over the winter months. Watch the newspaper for the date that we will begin having auctions.

Hustontown Fire Co. will sponsor its annual Mother’s Day smorgasbord on Sunday, May 9, beginning at 11:00 a.m. The menu includes a large variety of meats, mashed potatoes, filling, gravies and vegetables, salads, desserts, rolls and beverages.

Get mother away from the kitchen and treat her to a good meal at the firehall. Also the firemen will appreciate and thank you for your support. A good chance to show our appreciation for their good service.

Household hint: To keep asparagus fresh for a day or more, cut a small amount off the bottom of each stalk. Stand the stalks upright in a container in a small amount of water, cover with a plastic bag and refrigerate.
