Mother’s Day Flower Sale St. Stephen Family Life Committee is sponsoring a Mother’s Day flower sale in front of Snyder’s Insurance on Friday, May 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Saturday, May 8, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Hanging baskets and flowers in pots will be available.

AARP Driver Safety Program The classroom refresher course for the AARP Driver Safety Program will be offered at McConnellsburg Senior Center, 100 Woodside Drive, McConnellsburg, on May 6 and 7. There will be two days of classes, 9:30 a.m. to noon each day. Advanced registration is required. Cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers. Make check payable to AARP. Sign up in person, by phone at 485-5613 or by mail. Graduates of the class age 55 and over will be eligible for three-year auto insurance discounts. If there is more than one person over 55 on your insurance policy, all must complete the class to be eligible for the discount. If planning on staying for dinner at the center following the class, please call the day before.
Carwash/Bake Sale A carwash and bake sale will be held Saturday, April 24, at the courthouse square and the United Methodist Church from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Proceeds benefit the United Methodist teen youth group’s “Haitian Shelter Project.”
Cemetery Cleanup Asbury Cemetery Association will hold its annual cleanup day on Monday, May 3, at 5:30 p.m. Raindate is Tuesday, May 4, at 5:30 p.m.
Bird ID Walk DCNR, Bureau of Forestry, will host a bird identification walk Sunday, May 2, at 8:00 a.m. at the Kerper tract (also known as Redbud Valley) of the Buchanan State forest, near Big Cove Tannery. Meet at the parking area along State Route 928 near the new footbridge over Big Cove Creek at 8:00 a.m. The event is free and participants should dress appropriately. Participants may want to bring binoculars and a field guide.
Carwash A carwash will be held April 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Great Cove Autos. Sponsored by Mt. Zion Lodge 774 to benefit charitable fundraising efforts.
Litter & Trash Cleanup A litter and trash cleanup day, sponsored by Friends of the Little Aughwick Creek, will be held April 24 at 9:00 a.m. Meet at two locations to pick up around the Burnt Cabins and Fort Littleton area. Meeting at the parking lot across from Park Texaco in Fort Littleton at 9:00 a.m. Lunch and drinks provided by Park Gas Station. Meeting at the Burnt Cabins Grist Mill at 8:30 a.m. Hot dogs, snacks and drinks provided by Burnt Cabins Grist Mill. Public Focus Group Session Tri-State Community Health Center is holding a Community Public Focus Group session on Wednesday, May 19, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the community room of Community State Bank at 415 Fulton Drive, McConnellsburg. The purpose of the meeting is to obtain critically important business and service information that will greatly help establish Tri-State Community Health Center’s strategic plans for the next two years. The forum is open to, and focused on, input from the gen- eral public, including all residents in surrounding communities to McConnellsburg, as well as Tri-State patients.
Rain Barrel/Garden Workshop Harvest Rain Water. Due to popular demand, a second rain barrel/rain garden workshop will be offered. Join in April 24 from 9 a.m. to noon for a hands-on rain barrel workshop at the 4-H building at the Fulton County Fairgrounds. Learn how to make your own rain barrel and harvest water for your garden. The first 12 people to register and pay the $10 materials fee will be able to take a barrel home.
