Mary R. Carnell
Mary Richards “Nana,” Carnell 85, died Friday, March 19, 2010, at Carlisle Regional Medical Center, with her family at her side.
She was a resident of Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community, Carlisle. She had lived in St. Thomas for 54 years prior to moving to Cumberland Crossings.
She was born March 6, 1925, in Big Cove Tannery, the daughter of the late Herman Sylvester and Mary Etta (Engle) Richards. She was married to Bryce Mifflin Carnell April 7, 1945.
Prior to her marriage, she worked at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg. She was an exceptional baker, and was well known for her delicious cakes, cookies and her “secret” icing recipe.
She was much loved and will be dearly missed by her son, Conard B. Carnell; her daughter-in-law, Claire Beadon Carnell; her two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Bryce Mifflin Carnell; her parents, Herman Sylvester Richards and Mary Etta (Engle) Richards and her brother, Lee Richards.
Funeral services and interment were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 26, 2010, at Cedar Grove Cemetery with the Rev. James Link officiating.
