Joseph F. Weller Jr.

Joseph F. “Joe” Weller Jr., 86, Hancock, died Thursday, April 1, 2010, at NMS in Hagerstown.

Born August 28, 1923, in Maryland, he was the son of the late Joseph F. Weller Sr. and Vergie G. Helser and the husband of Lucille A. Douglas Weller, whom he married July 14, 1946. She preceded him in death May 7, 2006.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

He retired in 2005 from D.L. Bowman as a truck driver.

He was one of the founders of USS Raby Sailors Association.

He was a member and deacon of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Clear Spring, Md.

He is survived by two sons: J. Keith Weller, Hancock; Douglas D. Weller, Big Pool, Md.; a sister, Dorothy Truax, Big Pool, Md.; three grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters.

Services were held Tuesday, April 6, at 11:00 a.m., at Grove Funeral Home, Hancock. Rev. Charles M. Mackley officiated. Burial was made in Damascus Cemetery, Big Cove Tannery.
