Evelyn I. Bitner
Evelyn I. Bitner, 84 Waynesboro, Pa., died at 1:50 p.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2010, in Chambersburg Hospital. She had been in declining health the past several months and critically ill the last two weeks.
Born August 17, 1925, in Waterfall, Fulton County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late James and Emma (Reeder) Barnett.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle. She was a member of the National A.A.R.P. and enjoyed gardening and flowers.
She and her husband, Lewis K. Bitner, were married February 27, 1946. He died on February 4, 2008.
Surviving family are one daughter, Emma L. (wife of William) Berger, Waynesboro, Pa.; two sons: Robert L. (Husband of Jackie) Bitner, Winterville, N.C.; Roger W. (husband of Tina) Bitner, Greencastle; one sister, Blanche Umbrell, Waynesboro; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brothers: Vaughn Barnett, Melvin Barnett, Raleigh Barnett and sisters Ada Clippinger, Velma Cowan, Gladys Daniels and Alice Wilson.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 2, at 10:00 a.m. from Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greencastle. Revs. Martin Horn and Joseph Baer officiated. Burial was in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.
Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, was in charge of arrangements.
