Upcoming public programs

April 14 – Child’s Play. Bring your preschool-age children to the park for some fun and learning! Today’s theme is bugs. Activities for this program may include a story, craft, outdoor exploration or other activity. Playtime can sometimes be messy, so be sure your children are dressed in play clothes and shoes, and have appropriate attire for the outdoors. Child’s Play begins at the Brightbill Interpretive Center at 11:00 a.m.

April 15 – Senior Series: Birding by the Box

Each year, volunteers and staff maintain and monitor nest boxes at Cowans Gap in an effort to encourage and provide nesting spaces for cavity-nesting birds. One of the most famous cavity-nesting birds is the eastern bluebird. This cheerful bird is, for many, the herald of spring. Learn about bluebirds and other cavity-nesters during this easy stroll in the park. We’ll take a peek inside some of the nest boxes along the way to see if anybody’s taken up residency! Birding by the Box begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Brightbill Interpretive Center. This program is being presented especially for seniors, but all ages are welcome.

April 17 – Signs of Spring Walk. From the sounds of singing birds to the greening of the hillsides, spring is definitely upon us! Come enjoy a 1.4-mile walk around the lake as we explore the changing of the seasons. Spring weather can be fickle, so dressing in layers and wearing water-proof shoes are advised. Meet at the amphitheater at 10:00 a.m. to join in this program.

April 21 – Child’s Play. Bring your preschool-age children to the park for some fun and learning! Today’s theme is recycling. Activities for this program may include a story, craft, outdoor exploration or other activity. Playtime can sometimes be messy, so be sure your children are dressed in play clothes and shoes, and have appropriate attire for the outdoors. Child’s Play will begin at the Brightbill Interpretive Center at 11:00 a.m.
