Big Cove Tannery, 79

Norman H. Mellott, 79, Big Cove Tannery, died sunday, March 28, 2010, at Altoona Regional Trauma Unit, Altoona.

He was born in Needmore, December 8, 1930, the son of the late R.C. and Jesse (Truax) Mellott. He was the husband of Arietta W. (Williams) Mellott, whom he married January 15, 1949.

He attended Laurel Ridge Christian Church in Big Cove Tannery.

He worked as a foreman and equipment operator at H.B. Mellott Estates in Warfordsburg for 41-1/2 years before retiring in 1993. After retirement he still enjoyed operating his bulldozer and doing mechanical work with his grandchildrn.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter Shirley M. Strub, Unadilla, N.Y.; son Leslie N. Mellott, husband of Kathy, Big Cove Tannery; brothers: Fred Mellott, Tulsa, Okla.; Richard M. Mellott, Needmore; Paul Mellott, St. Thomas; Charles Mellott, Dunn, N.C.; Earl Mellott, Mercersburg; sisters; Pauline Stahl, Mercersburg; Evelyn Theis, Flint, Texas; grandchildren: Corey Strub, husband of Kyley, N.Y.; Kirby Mellott, husband of Amy, Big Cove Tannery; Jennifer Mellott, Big Cove Tannery; Shauna Wilsey, N.Y.; Stephanie Couse, wife of Shane, N.Y.; Dusti Strub, N.Y.; Sherilena Strub, N.Y.; great-grandchildren: Miles Mellott, Big Cove Tannery; Levi Mellott, Big Cove Tannery; Michaela Strub, N.Y.; Cierra Strub, N.Y.; Jacob Utter, N.Y.; Ryland Wilsey, N.Y.; Shayanna Couse, N.Y.; and Addalyn Strub, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by brothers: King, Grover, Clair and Carl Mellott; and a sister, Madeline E. Humbert.

Funeral services will be held at Laurel Ridge Christian Church, Big Cove Tannery, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 1. Pastor David Hamilton will officiate. Interment will be made at Lauarel Ridge Christian Cemetery, Big Cove Tannery.

There will be visitation on Wednesday, March 31, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McCon-nellsburg. There will also be visitation one hour before the service on Thursday at the church.
