MVFCO Awarded Fire Grant
Congressman Bill Shuster is pleased to announce that the McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co. has received a grant in the amount of $37,953 through the Department of Homeland Security Assistance Fire Fighters Grant Program.
The fire company will use the grant to purchase new turnout gear to protect firefighters that have recently joined the fire company. Additionally, the grant money will be used to install a telescopic light tower on one of the engines to increase visibility during night operations.
“This is great news for the volunteer firefighters of the Mc- Connellsburg V.F.C.,” Shuster said. “I congratulate them on their successful grant application. Without this grant, the fire company would be hard pressed to buy this critical equipment alone. This grant program allows our small local fire companies to keep up with new equipment and training requirements that would otherwise be costprohibitive.”
“McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co. is very appreciative of the efforts of Congressman Shuster in supporting this vital program for fire departments nationwide. Without this program, it would be difficult to secure quality, up-to-date equipment to better serve and protect our community as well as providing the utmost protection and safety for our firefighters, said Pete Lynch, fire chief.”
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP) awards one-year grants directly to fire departments and rescue personnel to support the nation’s first responders and the services they deliver.
