Book Sale A benefit book sale will be held May 7-9, 2010, at the 26th annual Friends of Legal Services book sale at Laird Hall on the Wilson College campus in Chambersburg. Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, May 7; 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 8; and noon to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 9. For information, call 717-262-2326.

Silent Auction The Forbes Road Drama Club is having a silent auction/ bake sale to benefit the high school musical “Grease.” The auction/ bake sale will be held March 25 and 26 from 4-6 p.m. and March 27 from 9 a.m. to noon in the high school auditorium. Some of the items up for bid are Mary Kay Cosmetics, rag quilts, jewelry, photo packages, hair care products, and more.

55-ALIVE Class The AARP Driver Safety Program (55-Alive/Mature Driving) will be offered at Warfordsburg Senior Center on March 25 and 26. Classes are from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Two days of classes are required. Preregister, either in person or by mailing the check payable to AARP for $12 per person AARP members or $14 non-members, to Warfordsburg Senior Center, 209 Long Hollow Rd. Warfordsburg, PA 17267. Completion of the class for those over age 55, will be eligible for the 3- year auto insurance discount. In the event there are two or more over 55 on the policy, all must complete the class. Please be sure to reserve your lunch when registering if interested. Need not be a member of AARP or the senior center to attend the class. There are also no tests involved. Cemetery Cleanup Day Siloam United Methodist Cemetery association will have cleanup day on Saturday, March 27, at 9 a.m.

Spring Is On The Way Be Prepared! Join in on March 27 from 9 a.m. to noon for a hands-on rain barrel and rain garden workshop at the new Thompson Township Municipal Building. Learn how to make your own rain barrel and harvest water for your garden. The first 10 people to register and pay the $10 materials fee will be able to take a barrel home. Everyone is welcome to attend and learn for free (but no barrel will be provided). Please call the Fulton County Conservation District at 717-485-3547 to register. The new Thompson Township Municipal Building is located at 187 Gem Bridge Road.

Licking Creek Cleanup Volunteer trash cleanup will be held at the Licking Creek illegal dumpsite in Thompson Township, Fulton County Saturday, April 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Meet at 8:45 a.m. at the dumpsite, located on Licking Creek Road. From McConnellsburg follow US-522 south, Great Cove Road for seven miles, turn left onto PA 928/Big Cove Tannery Road and follow for seven miles, turn left onto Johnson Road, cross over Licking Creek, turn right onto Licking Creek Road and end at the dumpsite. SF Spring Sale Southern Fulton School District is holding its annual spring sale from April 1-23. Items for sale include the following: T-shirts, hoodies, shorts, socks, polo shirts, key chains and patches. Payment is due when the order is received and checks should be made out to SFD. Musical Auditions Summer musical auditions will be Saturday April 3, 2010 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at McConnellsburg UMC, April 19, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McConnellsburg UMC, and April 20 from 6 p.m. to -7:30 p.m. at Cito UMC. We are doing “Children of Eden.” All ages are welcome. Please come with a song of choice to perform. A dance ensemble is needed in addition to choral company. Anyone interested in being a part of the dance ensemble, please come with a dance. Musical will be July 15-17, 2010. Free Lyme Disease Movie The award-winning documentary on Lyme disease, “Under Our Skin,” will be shown this Sunday, March 28, at 2 p.m at the Berkeley Springs High School auditorium. Lyme disease is affecting many people in our area. This movie is not suitable for young children. For more information, call Lori at 304-258-3692.

Free Tax Help and E-Filing Free tax help and E-filing for taxpayers with low or middle income, any age, will be held at Fulton Theatre, behind F&M Bank, McConnellsburg, every Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers will prepare federal, state, local and rent and property tax rebates. Please bring all of the following: last year’s income tax returns, current year’s tax forms such as W-2s, 1099-Int., 1099-Div., 1099- B, 1099-R, social security, etc. Must have last year’s taxes to be able to E-file. No business or farms. Have 8 preparers who are certified by the IRS. Any questions call 717-987-3915. No parking on F&M Bank’s parking lot.

Farmland Preservation Program Fulton County Conservation District will be accepting applications for the Farmland Preservation Program from February 1 to March 31. Landowners interested in the program must complete an application available at the Conservation District Office. All applicants are required to pay a $100, nonrefundable application fee at the time the application is submitted. All properties must meet the minimum eligibility requirements of the program to be considered for conservation easement purchase.
