Racing Roundup

By Brad Vores

Different weekend, same old story.

While all of the snow finally melted in the area in time for racing, Mother Nature threw another punch at local speedway’s over the weekend with a big rain event that forced Lincoln, Hagerstown and Port Royal speedways to cancel their events.

For Lincoln and Hagerstown, it was the third straight weekend lost to the elements, and it also marked the end of any early season daytime events.

Lincoln will switch to 6 p.m. racing this Saturday night with the Icebreaker 30 for 410 Sprints along with the Spring Thaw 20 for Thundercars and the 358 Late Models.

Williams Grove Speedway is set to open for the 2010 season on Friday night with a 410 Sprint/358 Sprint car doubleheader along with fireworks. Race time will be 7:30 p.m.

Selinsgrove Speedway also kicks off its season this weekend with Race of Champions modified action.

Port Royal and Hagerstown are not in action.

Out on the World of Outlaws tour, Craig Dollansky and Jason Sides picked up wins in Texas as Dollansky won at Lone Star Speedway while Sides won Saturday at Houston Raceway Park.

Dollansky’s win was his second of the season, and it came over Steve Kinser, Joey Saldana, Jason Meyers and Jason Sides. Fred Rahmer was 12th, Daryn Pittman 18th and Lance Dewease 22nd.

Sides’ first win of the season came in exciting fashion over Tim Kaeding, Donny Schatz, Joey Saldana and Paul McMahan. Dewease finished sixth, Lucas Wolfe eighth and Pittman 11th, while Rahmer did not qualify.

The Outlaws head to Volunteer Speedway in Tennessee this weekend.

That’s a wrap on this week as we have our fingers and toes crossed that the extended forecast for the weekend remains warm and sunny so racing can finally get under way! Maybe next week, we will be bringing you some race results! As always, email at Bvores@comcast.net.
