A Tribute To The Elveys
Fulton County has just suffered a great tragedy. When I received a phone call from a neighbor Wednesday morning, before I was even out of bed, the last thing I expected to hear was that Elvey’s Flower Shop was going up in flames. I was so shocked I could barely speak. I cried. And I’m certain others did too when they got the news. What a terrible, terrible loss.
Elvey’s is like family. Elvey’s is where you go to get flowers. Elvey’s has been here for as long as I can remember. It’s like a dear friend, ... no... more like a close family member has died. Elvey’s has made flower arrangements for my dad, two of my brothers, my son, my mother, countless other family members, neighbors and friends who have passed away through the years.
It’s a place to come and visit while you select a bouquet for a birthday, a wedding, an anniversary, or, in so many cases, a funeral. It’s a place to just meander through the rows of plants and flowers when you are selecting plants for the garden. I just liked to go in and look. At everything! It was just a beautiful place. My little granddaughter loved to go in and pick out her own particular favorites when my daughter went in for flowers. I am just so sad now that we can’t do that anymore. It’s like a part of our lives has just disappeared.
My heart goes out to Roger and Faye. They were not only business acquaintances, they were friends. I am just so thankful that they were not hurt physically. But none of us can know the pain they feel in their hearts for this great loss. It was their livelihood. It was their life! We can only pray that God will comfort them in the pain of their loss and help them through this terrible ordeal. Roger and Faye, you have my heartfelt sorrow. Know that my prayers are with you. Thank you for being such a great part of our community, our lives and our families. May the Lord bless and strengthen you.
