City To Seek Jail Time For Pit Bull Owner
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) – Wichita will seek jail time for the owner of three pit bulls that killed a neighbor's dog.
Michelle Meier, an assistant city prosecutor, said the city would seek jail time for the pit bulls' owner, Kristi Bakhtiar. She has been charged with a number of animal control misdemeanors related to the attack.
After the Feb. 12 mauling of the neighbor's corgi, the city euthanized the three pit bulls involved in the attack.
Bakhtiar also faces multiple fines, some up to $1,000. The city has cited her in the past over two other pit bulls she owned. Those two pit bulls also were euthanized.
Bakhtiar attended the hearing Thursday when the city announced its intentions. She declined to comment. Her second court appearance is April 29.
