Hustontown

By Kate Berkstresser

We have really had a stormy and gloomy weekend, but folks said at least it wasn’t snow. This being mid-March, spring is fast approaching.

A large crowd attended Hustontown Fire Co.’s banquet on Saturday night. The fire company auxiliary prepared a very good meal. Congratulations to Brian Barton for being chosen EMT, and Alton Tice was chosen Fireman of the Year. We are grateful to the fire company for the good service they do.

The fire company will sponsor a shooting match on Saturday, March 20, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Prizes will be given. Shells will be furnished.

Glad to report Sarah Shaw is home and doing well after having back surgery. We wish her a complete recovery.

Happy birthday to Martha Berkstresser on March 23 and Linda Englert on March 24.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. David Boyer on their anniversary.

Congratulations to the Forbes Road boys basketball team in making it to the first round of state playoffs.

We are sorry to hear Elvey’s Flower Shop was destroyed by fire last week. We hope the folks are planning to rebuild. For now they are opening up business at the former Pleasant Valley Restaurant.

Household hint: Plastic storage boxes don’t provide a healthy environment for antique textiles. they can trap moisture which promotes mildew. They also break down chemically over time, giving off harmful gases.
