Sheldon D. DeShong
Sheldon D. DeShong, 78, Harrisonville, died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at his residence.
He was born in Harrisonville, July 27, 1931, the son of the late Thomas O. and Luemma E. “Lib” (Chesnut) DeShong. He was the widower of Ann “Pat” (Cutchall) DeShong, whom he married in May of 1959. She passed away in October of 1996.
He served in the U.S. Air Force as a A/1C(P)1 in the Korean War, was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie# 4274 in Harrisonville, and was a retired equipment operator from Penn- DOT.
He is survived by daughters: Shelley A. Gracey of McConnellsburg and Tina D. Fittery of Harrisonville; sister Phyllis Reel of Harrisonville; brother Harold G. “Nine” DeShong of Philadelphia; grandchildren: Torrie P. Kranick of Manassas, Va.; Ryan C. Gracey of McConnellsburg; Aaron M. Gracey of McConnellsburg, and Brandon L. Gracey of West Chester, Pa.
He was preceded in death by sisters: Betty L. Taylor, Cloran “Coke” Rank, M. Rosaline Kahn; brothers: James E. “Bud,” Robert H. “Bob” and Thomas A. DeShong.
Funeral services will be held at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., Harrisonville, at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2010, with Pastor Kevin Wade officiating.
There will be visitation on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., Harrisonville. There will also be visitation one hour before the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Military services will be conducted by the Fulton Honor Guard.
