Basil E. Pittman Sr.
Basil Eugene Pittman Sr., 79, Big Cove Tannery, died Thursday, March 4, 2010, at his home. Born March 13, 1930, in Kansas City, Mo., he was the son of the late Harry E. Pittman Sr. and Lillian E. Surber Pittman.
He was a veteran of the USMC, serving during the Korean War.
He retired in 1984 from Letterkenny Army Depot.
He was a member of the Damascus Christian Church, where hew as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by his wife Norma L. Mellott Pittman, whom he married June 11, 1952, in Hagerstown; one daughter, Carol L. Exline, Big Cove Tannery; one son, Basil E. Pittman Jr., Newburg, Pa.; three sisters: Juniata Harmison, Berkeley Springs; Virginia Kinsley, Pensacola, Fla., and Jo Ann Thomas, Dunedin, Fla.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers: Howard, Claude H., Richard, Harry Jr., Raymond, William and Donald Pittman.
Services were held Sunday, March 7, at 2:00 p.m., at Damascus Christian Church, Big Cove Tannery. Rev. Loy A. Garber officiated. Burial with military graveside services by Tri-State Honor Guard was made in Antioch Christian Cemetery.
Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, was in charge of arrangements.
