Suit: Pa. Boro Told Man ‘Too Old’ To Be Chief
NORTH IRWIN, Pa. (AP) – A 60-year-old man has sued a tiny western Pennsylvania borough claiming officials told him he was too old to be police chief.
Glenn Young’s federal lawsuit says he was 59 when he applied in June for the chief’s job in North Irwin.
Young, of New Brighton, says he has 34 years experience as a police officer but was told by Mayor Leonard Santimyer that he was “too old’’ and that the borough doesn’t hire anybody over 55. Young said he got minutes from a subsequent borough council meeting which showed officials rejected his application as “standard operating procedure’’ because he was over 55.
