Man Pleads Guilty To Swindling Elderly Pa. Woman

EBENSBURG, Pa. (AP) – A western Pennsylvania man has pleaded guilty to swindling more than $600,000 from an elderly woman for whom he worked as a handyman and caregiver.

Fifty-six-year-old Frank Solensky Jr. of Windber pleaded guilty Thursday to defrauding the woman by charging her greatly inflated prices for common household goods and repairs over an eight-year period.

Police say Solensky charged the now-93-year-old victim $950 for salt for her driveway and sold her seven garage-door openers for $2,500 each. Similar items cost less than $40.

Solensky pleaded guilty to nine counts of theft by deception and one count of forgery in Cambria County Court. Prosecutors are recommending a sentence of 2 1/2 to five years in prison.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 2.
