Public Opinion weekly honor roll student-athletes were Lacey Beatty, Chelsie Eader, Ryan Harper, Luke Mellott, Southern Fulton; Tanner Henry, Jesse Newman, Forbes Road; all for basketball.

Sympathy goes out to the families of Cam Mellott and Elsie Sipes, who passed away last week.

Kathleen O’Connor recently attended the annual flower show in the Farm Show arena and treated her daughter, Sharon, to the show for her birthday. She also visited with her daughter, Stacey, and family of Pasadena, Md.

Doris Ray recently fell while walking, fortunately not breaking anything, but very bruised in places and hopefully will be back doing her volunteer work soon.

Sarah Shaw of Hustontown is home recuperating from having back surgery last week in Fredrick, Md., and going great.This is her second back surgery.

A fifth birthday dinner was held for Cyrus Cunningham on Sunday at his grandparents Keith and Connie Cunningham’s with other family members attending.

A group of young adults from the Sharon Mennonite Bible Institute attended church services on Sunday in the St. Paul Lutheran Church. Their presence is welcome anytime.

Ruth Bolinger visited recently with her nephew, Peter Morton, and attended the wedding of her great niece in Melbourne, Fla.

Congratulations to Sarrah Pollock on winning the Elks National Hoop Shoot contest on Saturday at Penn State. Sarrah hit 23 out of 25 free throws. Later this month, she will be going to Wilkes Barre to the New York/New Jersey competition. Attending Saturday’s event were her parents, Joe and Michele Pollock, and lots of friends.

Congratulations to Southern Fulton’s boys basketball on capturing gold in District 5 competition at UPJ in Johnstown Friday night defeating Tussey Mountain and to Forbes Road boys for the bronze with a win against Shade last Wednesday. Good luck this Friday night in state competition.

A 20th birthday dinner party was held for Whitney Deshong on Saturday evening in the home of her mother, Beth and Kurt Kendall. The late Denny DeShong was her father.

Country shortcuts: To clean silk flowers place them in a pillowcase then toss in the dryer. Set the machine on the “fluff” cycle for five minutes. The dust will shake off them, leaving the petals pristine.
