DAR Holds Essay Contest And Luncheon
Franklin County Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution met at the Main Street Deli on February 13, 2010, for its annual American History Essay and DAR Good Citizen luncheon. The guest speaker was State Representative Mark Keller. He spoke on the many challenges facing students in today’s society.
The finalists in the American history essay contests were Sarah Lechleitner, grade seven, and Kaitlyn Barnhart, grade eight. Both students were from the Corpus Christi School and presented their essays to the group. The good citizenship winners were Sallianne Crawford, Greencastle Antrim; Laurel Jones, Chambersburg; Kelsey Meyers, James Buchanan; Dakota Ritz, Southern Fulton; Lorraine Simonis, Mercersburg Academy; and Sarah Stallman, McConnellsburg.
All students were presented awards and monetary gifts. Keisey Meyers, James Buchanan, was the county finalist and will be entered in the state DAR Good Citizens contests. Jane Zervos serves as the chairman of the American History Essay Committee and Sue Hershey and Anna Rotz co-chair the DAR Good Citizen Committee.
The next chapter DAR meeting will be March 20 at the Mountain Gate Restaurant, Waynesboro, along with a tour of Renfrew Museum. For more information on DAR membership, please contact the chapter regent at 717-369-3226.
