New Pro Shop Manager at GCGC


Jon and George Stennett Jon and George Stennett George Stennett, 70, of Chambersburg has been hired as Great Cove Golf and Recreation Club’s pro shop manager and will oversee all golf and clubhouse operations, according to board President Bob Peck.

In addition, PGA pro Jon Stennett, George’s son, will be onboard as the teaching professional for the club and part-time duties in the pro shop. Jon is also in the golf division at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Hagerstown, Md.

Having made a 30-year career as a business manager in a private company, George Stennett and his son also have extensive backgrounds in golf. They have worked with various golf shops, and the father and son partnership also owned and operated the Imberhaven Golf Co. Inc., a pro shop with driving range in the Carlisle area.

“The club is getting a twofor one deal,” joked Peck. “They bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and personality plus. George knows every aspect of what it takes to successfully run a golf course. It’s exactly what we need, and he will be very instrumental as we move to restore the course to financial stability,” Peck said.

Stennett said his first priority is to bring business to the golf course. “I want to make sure everyone is happy, has a satisfying experience and they want to come back,” he said. He is also asking for members to please give suggestions to improve the club. “If we can possibility make it happen, we are going to do it,” George Stennett said.

Jon Stennett is an accomplished golfer and PGA professional with more than 30 years playing golf. In teaching golf, Stennett said he bases his lessons on what the student already knows. “I’m very hands oriented, teaching the swing from where your hands grip the club,” Jon said. In addition to offering individual private instruction at Great Cove, Jon will also be offering junior instruction, playing instructional packages, semiprivate golf lessons and clinic opportunities.

Jon Stennett has a daughter Nicole, 18, who will be beginning college at Penn State and a son Karl, 16, who may be working in the pro shop.

In addition, father and son offer professional golf club repair and build golf club sets.

George and Jon Stennett expect to have everything in place for the golf season when the snow melts and the course is playable.
