Ruth (Friesen) Slagenweit, 94, The Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg, died Sunday, February 14, 2010, at the Village
Born December 27, 1915, in Thomas, Okla., she was the daughter of Peter B. and Edna May (Eyster) Friesen. She was married to Andrew Henry Slagenweit, who died November 22, 2000.
She was a member of the Messiah Village Brethren in Christ Church.
She was a school teacher in Oklahoma and Ohio, as well as helping her husband in the ministry. She was a graduate of Jabbok High School and South Western State Teachers College Weatherford, Okla. She was an avid quilter in the Messiah Village Quilting Auxiliary.
Surviving are four daughters: Dorcas Engle, Upland, Calif.; Carol Hendershot, Warfordsburg; and Marilyn LeClair, Johnstown, Ohio; and Mary Alice Willard, Camp Hill; three sisters: Margaret Heise, Indiana; Esther Richwine, Harrisburg; Allyne Isaac of Canada; and a brother, Ralph Friesen, California; eight grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse Friesen.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 19, at 11:00 a.m., at Messiah Village. Burial was made in Dry Hill Cemetery.
