Joseph Walter, 79, Needmore, died Sunday, February 14, 2010, at his home.
Born August 9, 1930, in Cabin John, Md., he was the son of the late Dewey L. and Mary Elizabeth Taylor Walter.
He was retired from Devereaux Construction in Chevy Chase, Md., as a carpenter.
He loved gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine M. Geri DeFina Walter; three sons: Joey Walter, Falling Waters, W.Va.; David Walter, Martinsburg, W.Va.; Danny Walter, Needmore; a daughter, Jenny Lillis, Chicago, Ill.; a brother, John Walter, Union Bridge, Md.; a sister, Anne Weaver, Gettysburg; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers: Tom, Charles, Francis, Paul and Philip Walter; and a sister, Jane Cantwell.
Services will be held Friday, February 19, at 11:00 a.m., at Grove Funeral Home, Hancock. Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
