Wounded Player’s Suit Against Pa. School Dismissed
PITTSBURGH (AP) – A western Pennsylvania judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed against Duquesne University by one of five basketball players wounded in shooting at a campus dance in September 2006.
Sam Ashaolu, who was shot twice in the head, accused the university and its Black Student Union of negligence. He also sued the two men serving prison terms in the case and two women who were with them.
Judge Ronald W. Folino dismissed the suit against the school and organization but ruled that the suit against former student Brittany Jones could continue. She admitted to knowingly helping her armed friends into the dance and was placed on probation for two years. Friday’s ruling did not address the suit against the two men or the other woman.
Ashaolu did not play basketball for the school again. He graduated in December.
