Relay For Life Kickoff The official kickoff for American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life 2010 in Fulton County takes place from 2 p.m until 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, at the American Legion in McConnellsburg. The community’s support of this year’s Relay fundraising efforts is encouraged. Information about the Relay, which is scheduled for May 21 and May 22 at tthe Fulton County Fairgrounds, will be reviewed at the kickoff, including how to organize a team, fundraising methods, how to donate, etc. Entertainment, a cake walk, door prizes and refreshments are planned. Also, cancer survivors will be celebrated and a former cancer patient will speak. For more information, call the Cancer Society at 264-6266. Computer Troubleshooting PA CareerLink will hold a computer troubleshooting workshop Wednesday, March 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Fulton County Area Vocational Technical School. This workshop will help you understand and solve basic computer problems. There is no charge to attend this training. CF K4/K5 Registration Central Fulton School District will hold registration for the 2010-2011 school year on Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday, March 18, 19, 22 and 23. Children who will be age 4 on or before August 25, 2010, are eligible for the 4K program and children who will be age 5 on or before August 25, 2010, are eligible for kindergarten. SF Pre-Kindergarten Registration Southern Fulton School District will be having pre-kindergarten registration on March 4 and 5. Anyone having children who will be 3 or 4 years old before September 1, 2010, should call the elementary school at 717-294-3400 to schedule an appointment.
Free Tax Help and E-Filing Free tax help and E-filing for taxpayers with low or middle income, any age, will be held at Fulton Theatre, behind F&M Bank, McConnellsburg, every Wednesday beginning February 3, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers will prepare federal, state, local and rent and property tax rebates. Please bring all of the following: last year’s income tax returns, current year’s tax forms such as W-2s, 1099- Int., 1099-Div., 1099-B, 1099-R, social security, etc. Must have last year’s taxes to be able to E-file. District Tree Sale Fulton County Conservation District is currently taking orders for its annual tree sale. A large variety of fruit, nut, ornamental and forestation trees are available. Also available are strawberries, blueberries, grapes and asparagus. Deadline for all orders is March 5, 2010. Profits from the tree seedling sale are used to support environmental education efforts within Fulton County.
Farmland Preservation Program Fulton County Conservation District will be accepting applications for the Farmland Preservation Program from February 1 to March 31. Landowners interested in the program must complete an application available at the Conservation District Office. All applicants are required to pay a $100, nonrefundable application fee at the time the application is submitted. All properties must meet the minimum eligibility requirements of the program to be considered for conservation easement purchase. First Responder Course Southern Alleghenies EMS Council Inc. in cooperation with Pennsylvania Highlands Community College Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. March 23 to June 3. Registration and first class will be March 23 at Hustontown Firehall.
Volunteer Training Home Nursing Agency’s Hospice volunteer training classes will be offered in the upcoming months. Volunteers make a difference by serving as an integral part of the agency’s hospice team of caring professionals. The hospice team works collaboratively to provide support and companionship for patients experiencing a life-limiting illness so that they may live as comfortable as possible.
