S. Bernard England

Everett, 84

S. Bernard England, 84, Everett, died Saturday, January 23, 2010, at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona.

He was born October 12, 1925, in Everett, a son of the late William R. and Rosie (Snyder) England.

On December 11, 1960, he married the former Sara E. Hershberger. She preceded him in death on October 18, 2003.

He is survived by two children: D. Bernard “Bernie” England, Everett, and L. Rosemary England, Everett; one grandson, Gregory Samuel Clapper, Everett; a sister-in-law, Eleanor England, Everett; many nieces and nephews; and many friends who he considered family.

He was a lifetime member of the Snake Spring Valley Church of the Brethren, where he served as a deacon. He attended Armstrong one-room schoolhouse in the valley.

He was a dairy farmer owning and operating his family farm, Peacock Lane Farm, until his retirement in 1995, but still remained active working alongside his son, daughter and grandson. He also was a livestock hauler for many years, providing and serving many farmers.

He was a member of the Crystal Spring Red/White Dairy Cattle Association, National Holstein Association and a former member of the Senior Extension. He loved farming and spending time with his grandson, who was his pride and joy. He enjoyed attending the Bedford County Fair, where he watched his grandson show cattle. He was known by many as “Pap.”

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 27, at 11:00 a.m., in the Snake Spring Valley Church of the Brethren. Pastor Janet Sell officiated. Burial was at Ritchey Cemetery, Snake Spring Valley.

Akers Funeral Home, Everett, was in charge of arrangements.
