Pesticide Trainings Fulton County Cooperative Extension will be conducting the following pesticide update trainings during February 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.: February 3 – Forbes Road High School; February 10 – McConnellsburg High School; and February 24 – Southern Fulton High School. If school is canceled or has early dismissal, the meeting will be rescheduled. Meetings are 2 CORE, 2 CATEGORY and 2 RESEARCH credits. Cost for attendance is $5. Cancer Survivors Night To Be Held At McConnellsburg On Thursday, February 4 all cancer survivors are invited to attend the Forbes Road vs. McConnellsburg girls basketball game held in the Mc- Connellsburg High School gym. The games will start at 6:30 p.m. and there will be a reception room with light snacks provided. Please come and enjoy a great evening of Spartan/Cardinal basketball and help support all those who have cancer. At McConnellsburge Liberty Crouse, a first-grader, and Justin Hudson, a seventh-grader, are going thru treatment for cancer. Relay For Life Kickoff The official kickoff for American Cancer Societyís Relay For Life 2010 in Fulton County takes place from 2 p.m until 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, at the American Legion in McConnellsburg. The community’s support of this year’s Relay fundraising efforts is encouraged. Information about the Relay, which is scheduled for May 21 and May 22 at tthe Fulton County Fairgrounds, will be reviewed at the kickoff, including how to organize a team, fundraising methods, how to donate, etc. Entertainment, a cake walk, door prizes and refreshments are planned. Also, cancer survivors will be celebrated and a former cancer patient will speak. For more information, call the Cancer Society at 264-6266. CF K4/K5 Registration Central Fulton School District will hold registration for the 2010-2011 school year on Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday, March 18, 19, 22 and 23. Children who will be age 4 on or before August 25, 2010, are eligible for the 4K program and children who will be age 5 on or before August 25, 2010, are eligible for kindergarten. SF Pre-Kindergarten Registration Southern Fulton School District will be having pre-kindergarten registration on March 4 and 5. Anyone having children who will be 3 or 4 years old before September 1, 2010, should call the elementary school at 717-294-3400 to schedule an appointment.
Free Tax Help and E-Filing Free tax help and E-filing for taxpayers with low or middle income, any age, will be held at Fulton Theatre, behind F&M Bank, McConnellsburg, every Wednesday beginning February 3, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers will prepare federal, state, local and rent and property tax rebates. Please bring all of the following: last year’s income tax returns, current year’s tax forms such as W-2s, 1099- Int., 1099-Div., 1099-B, 1099-R, social security, etc. Must have last year’s taxes to be able to E-file. Hudson Fundraiser A fundraiser for Justin Hudson, who is battling cancer for the second time, sponsored by the Cub Scout Pack 43, will be held on Saturday, January 30, at Cito Fellowship Hall. Soup made over an open fire will be sold by the quart and half-quart from noon to 3:00 p.m. A baked goods auction will be held at 1:00 p.m. with donations accepted. The community is asked to participate in order to assist Justin and his family with medical costs. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to Justin.
District Tree Sale Fulton County Conservation District is currently taking orders for its annual tree sale. A large variety of fruit, nut, ornamental and forestation trees are available. Also available are strawberries, blueberries, grapes and asparagus. Deadline for all orders is March 5, 2010. Profits from the tree seedling sale are used to support environmental education efforts within Fulton County.
Farmland Preservation Program Fulton County Conservation District will be accepting applications for the Farmland Preservation Program from February 1 to March 31. Landowners interested in the program must complete an application available at the Conservation District Office. All applicants are required to pay a $100, nonrefundable application fee at the time the application is submitted. All properties must meet the minimum eligibility requirements of the program to be considered for conservation easement purchase. Winter Workshop Series Penn State Cooperative Extension presents winter workshop series at Fulton County Library on Saturday, February 6, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Intro to Gardening with the Penn State Master Gardeners. Cost is $15 for materials and supplies. Also on Saturday, February 13, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Stitch by Stitch Beginner Sewing for Kids. Cost is free for materials and supplies. Saturday, February 20, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Safe Sitter Class for ages 10-15. Cost is $10 for materials and supplies.
