FCMC Foundation Board Meets

SPECIAL TO THE NEWS

The board of directors of the Fulton County Medical Center Foundation met for the new first meeting of the New Year on Monday, January 11, 2010. Issues discussed included the financial report, gifting and granting, image and public relations, campaigns and upcoming events, updates on the new patient services building, including a tour, welcoming of the new board members, and the recruitment plan for a new director.

The FCMC Foundation Board gifting and granting portion of the meeting included a presentation by the McConnellsburg Lion’s Club regarding its request for a grant for the wellness walking park. The FCMC Foundation would like the McConnellsburg Lions Club to reach out to the other two clubs in the area and look at a joint venture between the three organizations and the foundation, specifically targeting a wellness theme.

Director of Community Relations and Development Cheryl Brown reported on the current campaigns. The current campaigns include Continuing the Dream, the Jim Camp Campaign and newly kicked off “ZOOM ZOOM” campaign to aid in the purchase of a much-needed Van for long-term care. The Patient Services Building Campaign has $980,000 to go to reach the goal of $2.1 million. The Zoom Zoom Campaign that began January 1, has received nearly $2,000. That campaign goal is set at $60,000 with $15,000 expected to come from the annual dinner auction on April 17 to be held at the Hustontown Firehall. The Jim Camp Campaign saw its first check sent to Africa to continue the work started by beloved co-worker Jim Camp. The $3,200 check was sent to fund the scholarship program for the nursing students. $10,000 has been received so far for that campaign.

The Foundation also discussed the recruitment plan to hire an executive director to lead the day-to-day functions of the Foundation. To date, 25 applications have been submitted, and a search committee will review the applications early next week.

In closing, the Foundation Board acknowledged the superb service of Brown during her tenure at the Medical Center and wished her well in her new endeavor, noting she will be greatly missed. Her last day was January 13, 2010. The Community Relations and Development Department will be handling critical functions until the position is filled. Please call 717-485-6842 or 717-485-6115.
