Mellott Wins Big At Holiday Tennis Tourney


Young tennis star Bronwyne Mellott dominated the junior division of the fourth annual Duston Gibbons Memorial Holiday Tournament held at The Tennis Club in Zullinger, Pa., December 26 through December 31. The 11-year-old won the 18 and under girls singles, girls doubles and mixed doubles competitions, losing only in the women’s open semifinals to tennis instructor Leigh Sappenfield of Maryland 6-2, 6-3. Bronwyne finished the 2009 season ranked number one in the United States Tennis Association’s girls 12 and under of the central Pennsylvania district and 19th in middle states. She is the daughter of Howard and Karla Mellott of Harrisonville and attends school in McConnellsburg.
