Forbes Road 91, Shalom 34

Forbes Road sunk 55 points before the halftime break and rolled on to an easy 91-34 victory over Shalom Christian Tuesday night in the first round of the Fannett-Metal Christmas Tournament. Tanner Henry rallied for 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Cardinals, who also had three additional teammates reaching double figures. Trent Black netted 18 points and grabbed four steals, while Jesse Newman followed closely with 16 points and seven assists. Alex Bookheimer finished out the tourney game with 10 points.

Southern Fulton 62

Berkeley Springs 44

Luke Mellott nailed 19 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Southern Fulton Indians, who clinched the Tri-State Shootout Tournament Tuesday evening with a decisive 62-44 win over Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Ryan Harper followed with 17 points, and Dylan Whiteside added 11 points, four assists and three steals. Both Mellott and Whiteside were named to the all-tourney team, with Mellott grabbing most valuable player honors.

A heated match between the Fannett-Metal Tigers and the Forbes Road Cardinals ended with some key free throws at the line and a four-point victory for the Tigers during Wednesday’s championship round of the Fannett Metal Christmas Tournament. Jesse Newman had just under 50 percent of the Cardinals’ points with 27 and also had eight rebounds, seven assists and two steals. Trent Black and Tanner Henry both chipped in 11 points, while Henry also had 14 rebounds. Black also had 11 rebounds and five assists.

Forbes Road, 68

Belleville Mennonite, 37

The Forbes Road Cardinals pumped in 22 points in the third quarter of Monday evening’s non-league match to easily defeat Belleville Mennonite by the score of 68-37. Jesse Newman continued his scoring streak with 24 points and also grabbed 13 rebounds. Trent Black totalled 19 points and five steals, while Tannery Henry nailed 12 points and added three assists and four blocked shots.

McConnellsburg, 55

Hyndman, 51

The McConnellsburg Spartans clinched their second victory of the 2009-10 season on Monday with a narrow four-point win over the Hyndman Hornets. Ryan Defibaugh was the Spartans’ leading scorer with 18 points while also pulling down eight boards. Teammate Evan Appleby finished with 14 points. Devin Welsh ended the Sideling Hill League match with seven assists and three steals.

Tussey Mountain, 57

Southern Fulton, 55

Southern Fulton took its very first loss of the season Monday evening, losing to Tussey Mountain by a mere two points during the last minute of play. Ryan Harper led his Indian teammates with 16 points and six assists, and Luke Mellott had 14 points and 13 rebounds for a doubledouble. Seth Hall was the next highest scorer with nine points.
