By Kate Berkstresser

The Christmas holiday and weekend weather weren’t too bad, only foggy and ugly on Saturday.

We extend our sympathy to the family and relatives of Charles Shotts, who passed away on Friday.

Shawn and Jackie Berkstresser and son Ryan, and Lloyd Covert and Kate Berkstresser were dinner guests at Harvey and Pat Berkstresser’s for Christmas.

Happy birthday wishes go to Trent Black on January 1; and Yvette Miller, January 2 .

Shawn and Jackie Berkstresser and son Ryan of Slippery Rock and Kate Berkstresser spent Saturday with Robert and June Bennett of Carlisle. On Saturday others visiting were Gary and Barbara Torcasco and children of Harrisburg; Bobbie and Karen Bennett and daughter of Hershey; Sandra Holtz and daughter of Philadelphia; and James and Corinna Bennett and daughter of Carlisle.

Hustontown Fire Co. and Ladies Auxiliary would like to thank everyone for their support this past year. Without your help it would make our job more difficult. We hope that everyone will have a healthy and safe 2010.

Hustontown Fire Co. will sponsor a hog shoot on New Year’s Day, January 1, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The fire company will also sponsor a food auction on Friday, January 8, at 6:00 p.m. Frozen foods, snacks and miscellaneous items will be available.

Sorry to report Grace Heefner had the misfortune of falling and getting a black eye. Hope it will be cleared away soon.

Household Hint: More from beaten eggs by letting them stand at room temperature for about an hour before you beat them. A slow, but easy way to separate eggs is to break one at a time into a small funnel over a cup. The whites will pass through into the cup and the yolk will remain in the funnel.

Happy New Year to everyone.
