Fred E. Mellott, 83, Harrisonville, Pa., died Thursday, December 10, 2009, at his residence.

He was born in Needmore, Pa., on August 18, 1926, the son of the late Oliver and Louetta (DeShong) Mellott. He was the husband of Naomi B. (Decker) Mellott, whom he married on February 23, 1991.

He was a member of Sideling Hill Christian Church, Needmore.

He served in the U.S. Navy in Worl War II, and was a retired operator from PennDOT and a farmer. He also loved gardening and was an avid hunter.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters: Althea G. (wife of Carl) Kendall, Mc- Connellsburg; Joan H. (wife of Tom) Kendall, McConnellsburg; Betty J. (wife of Lee) Clark, Warfordsburg; Shirley A. (wife of Roy) Miller, McConnellsburg; Anna Mary (wife of Ron) Shade, Mechanicsburg; Nancy D. (wife of Ferron) Cromwell, Harrisonville; Darlene K. (wife of Clair, Jr.) Lininger, Needmore; sons: Fred L. (husband of Nina) Mellott of McConnellsburg, Pa., Jackie R. (husband of Charlene) Mellott, Warfordsburg; Thomas W. Mellott, Needmore; stepsons: Meredith (husband of Karen) Shives, McConnellsburg; Eric (husband of Linda) Shives, Harrisonville; stepdaughters: Carol Buterbaugh, Harrisonville; Julie (wife of Tom) Ramsey, Harrisonville; Jody (wife of Scott) Buterbaugh, Harrisonville; sisters: Beulah Mumma of Chambersburg; Vera Hann of Harrisonville; Hilda Daniels of Needmore; Elsie Jackson of Breezewood; brothers: Melvin “Mick” Mellott, Needmore; Paul Mellott, Needmore; 27 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, two greatgreat grandchildren, 11 stepgrandchildren and six step-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by son Kenneth E. Mellott; brother Harry Mellott; grandchildren: James Kendall, Julie and Joseph Mellott, Mason Daniels, former wife Thelma R. Mellott and stepson Randall Shives.

Funeral services were at Sideling Hill Christian Church, Needmore, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2009. Rev. William Swope officiated. Interment was at Pleasant Ridge Nazarene Cemetery, Harrisonville.

Arrangements were made by the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg, Pa.
