Pa. State Trooper Cleared Of Assaulting Motorist
MOUNTAINHOME, Pa. (AP) – A state trooper in northeastern Pennsylvania has been cleared on charges of assaulting a motorist during a traffic stop.
Magisterial District Judge John Whitesell dismissed charges including simple assault and official oppression against 37-year-old Tpr. Mark Shutkufski during a preliminary hearing Thursday.
Shutkufski was charged after the motorist complained Shutkufski punched him and pointed a stun gun at his head during a traffic stop in July 2008 in the Pocono Mountains.
The judge dismissed the charges after a witness said he did not see Shutkufski throw a punch. Footage from the police car’s dashboard video camera shows the two men struggling.
