Robert T. Henry


Robert T. Henry, 80, Chambersburg, died Monday, November 30, 2009, in Chambersburg Hospital.

Born December 23, 1928, in Southampton Township, Franklin County, he was a son of the late Ray E. and Grace B. Rebuck Henry.

He was the former owner of the Robert T. Henry Pharmacy in Shippensburg.

He attended Shippensburg University and was a 1951 graduate of Temple University School of Pharmacy.

He was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church, having served over the years as elder, Sunday School teacher, greeter, usher, elector and member of the church council. He was director emeritus of Orrstown Bank, on the board of directors of Spring Hill Cemetery and a former board member of Bonanza at the Chambersburg Mall.

He was a member of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post #1599, Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, Elks # 600, Harrisburg Consistory, Continental Commandery #56 Knights Templar, a 50-year member of Cumberland Valley Lodge # 315 F. & A. M., and a former member of the Chambersburg Country Club.

He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was an avid golfer, hunter, photographer and a dance club member. He was a former private pilot and enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling with his wife all over the world.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years: Delores Deshong “Honey” Henry, formerly of Fulton County; a son, Robert T. Henry Jr. and his wife, Verda, of Mercersburg; a daughter, Anne K. Corwell, and her husband, Brian, of Chambersburg; a brother, Ray Henry, of Shippensburg; a sister, Helen Smith, of Elizabethtown; and five grandchildren:Carly Henry, Jamie Miller, Jessa, Jakey and Joey Corwell.

Memorial services preceded by a Masonic service were held Saturday, December 5, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. in the Memorial Lutheran Church. Rev. Dr. Robert Seibold officiated. Private burial with military honors were conducted by the Shippensburg VFW and American Legion posts in Spring Hill Cemetery.
