2009 JLG Quarter Century Clu Banquet
On the evening of November 21, the JLG Quarter Century Club held its 10th annual Recognition Banquet at the Hustontown Firehall. The Quarter Century Club was established in 1999, with the support and encouragement of then chairman of the board and chief executive officer L. David Black. The club was created to formally recognize those team members with 25 or more years of service who are actively employed or retired. The group began in 1999 with 89 charter members and has grown to 235 members in 2009.
The evening began with a delicious meal prepared by the Hustontown Fire Co. ladies auxiliary. Following dinner, recognition was given to the club leaders who served in each of the past 10 years, to the new members joining the club in 2009 and to recent retirees. Special recognition was also given to Bonnie Suders, who was the first club leader and throughout the past decade played an instrumental role in the growth and continued success of the club. Following the announcement of Lynn Foster as the new club leader for 2010, a mixture of Southern gospel and Christmas music was presented by the local singing group, Blessed Friends.
The primary focus of this year’s banquet, however, was on giving back to the community. In a two-fold effort to help others, members were asked to bring nonperishable food items to be donated to the Fulton County Food Basket. Members were also asked to contribute items for an auction from which the proceeds would benefit the Froggy 98 Christmas Carol fund. Many local businesses also donated items for the benefit auction. Due to the generosity of both the club members and the local businesses, both efforts were a huge success. Several bags and boxes of food were collected and taken to the Fulton County Food Basket just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. In addition, the auction raised a total of $1,044, which will help to brighten the holidays for one or more families selected by the Froggy 98 Christmas Carol program.
The Quarter Century Club would like to express its thanks to the following businesses for their generous donations: Community State Bank of Orbisonia, Eddy’s Engraving & Gifts, Flower Basket & Gift Box, Fulton Tractor & Equipment Inc., Giant Food Store, Grammy’s Country Corner, MacDonald’s Pharmacy, McConnellsburg Motor & Implement, McLaughlin’s Drug Store, MJ’s Massage Therapy & Chiropractic, State Farm Insurance (Linda Shope), Tower Bank, and Whitetail Resort.
