Iva Jean Hornbaker

Iva Jean (Souders) Hornbaker, 74, a resident of the Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Chambersburg and formerly of Mercersburg, died at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2009, in the nursing home.

Born February 18, 1935, in Huntingdon County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Otho M. and Sarah Elizabeth (Snyder) Souders.

In her earlier years, she was a candymaker and later worked in a department store. She was a member of the Clayton Memorial Church Of God of Mercersburg.

She was a graduate of James Buchanan High School and attended Hagerstown Business School. She bowled in the former Mercersburg Bowling League.

Surviving are sons: Kenny Hornbaker, Hagerstown, Md.; Michael Newsome, State Line, Pa.; sisters: Erma Wible, Orbisonia; Mary A. Smith, Parksley, Va.; Mabel Black, Fitzgerald, Ga.; Charlotte E. Schooley, Greencastle; one grandson, Trent Hornbaker; one step-grandson, Jaime Cordell, and former husband Eugene Hornbaker, State Line, Pa.

Funeral services were held on Saturday November 28, at 10:00 a.m. from Clayton Memorial Church Of God Mercersburg. Pastor Karen Ford officiated. Burial was in the Meyers Cemetery near Welsh Run. Arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home of Greencastle.
