Belva J. McCormick
Belva Jean Stoner McCormick, 87, died Friday, November 6, 2009 after a short illness in Austin, Texas.
She was born in Buck Valley, Pa., the daughter of Maude Amanda Patterson Stoner and Charles Lee Stoner on January 9, 1922.
Dearly loved by her family, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ike (John W.) Mc- Cormick, her parents and five of her six sisters. Her sisters, Gladys, Beatrice, Alberta, Grace and Dorothy were her best friends. Dorothy and Belva lived in adjoining apartments in Mc- Connellsburg for 16 years until August 2008. They were both strong, independent women caring and concerned about each other right till the end.
Her youngest sister, Joyce and her two children survive. Her son, John McCormick, Jr. lives in Lake City, Fla. She was living in Austin, TX with her daughter (Elsie) Carolyn McCormick and Jim Cawley. She was Momma to her granddaughter, Lisa Walsh of Matlock Bath, England and Grandma to Fried McCormick and Cheryl McCormick of Lake city, Fla. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren: Dylas, Chandler, Elizabeth, Kevin and Kendall; and Frances, her little cat and special friends for the last 12 years.
Her family was most important to her. She was an avid reader, an accomplished seamstress, an excellent cook, but most of all, a champion of the less fortunate and those unfairly persecuted. She had a special place in her heart for dogs and cats and supported animal advocacy groups. She was kind, gentle, wise and extremely tolerant of all.
The Harrell Funeral Home in Texas was in charge of arrangements.
