Pa. Residents Rally To Restore Nativity Scene
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (AP) – Some central Pennsylvania residents are urging officials in a small town to restore the public display of a Nativity scene.
A crowd estimated at between 100 and 200 people rallied with signs in Chambersburg on Saturday.
The Nativity scene had been displayed for about 50 years in Memorial Square. This year, a self-described atheist asked to put up a winter solstice sign alongside the creche (CRESH’).
Rather than allow multiple displays, the borough council last week banned them all. Now, only flowers and the American flag are permitted.
Rally organizer Lisa Blackstock of nearby Mercersburg has gathered more than 200 signatures on a petition asking officials to restore the Christmas scene.
