SF To Present Concert
Southern Fulton High School vocal music department will present “Glad Tidings of Joy,” its annual Christmas concert on Sunday, December 6, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The concert will feature senior high chorus, junior high chorus, SFHS Ensemble and selected soloists under the direction of Dan Meredith.
Senior high chorus and junior high chorus are curricular classes that rehearse during the school day. SFHS Ensemble is an extracurricular mixed chorus that rehearses once a week before school. Featured soloists for the concert will be seniors Carissa Gordon and Brian Stanley. Carissa will perform “Santa Baby,” and Brian will perform “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”
The choirs will perform new and familiar holiday music in a variety of settings. Familiar selections include “Fum, Fum, Fum,” “Deck the Halls” and “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” “Holy Night, Silent Night” is a unique setting combining the timeless “O Holy Night” with “Silent Night.” The song “Dinner Bell Carol” features a humorous look at the season set to the tune of “Carol of the Bells.” The medley “North Pole Rock and Roll” features “Rockin’ On Top of the World,” “Dig That Crazy Santa Claus” and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” The concert will conclude with the combined choirs performing “Glad Tidings of Joy,” on original tune by Mark Hayes inspired by classic Christmas carols.
The public is encouraged to attend and celebrate the holiday season with these talented students. Admission to the concert is $3 for adults and $2 for students. Proceeds benefit the choral activity fund. Meredith and the choirs wish to thank the community for its continued support.
